
KEN HARADA
KEN HARADA is a music producer and DJ born in Tokyo and raised in Seattle, whose career spans more than three decades across underground electronic music and mainstream pop. His musical journey began in 1990, driven by an early passion for DJing and production.
In 1995, Ken founded AQUA Records, a pioneering label within the global techno scene. Under his alias WATERMAN, his productions gained international recognition and the support of influential tastemakers including Andy Weatherall, Darren Emerson, and Slam. His collaboration with techno and tech-house producer Christian Smith led to the formation of the duo Galactica, releasing music on the renowned TRONIC Music label. During this era, Ken shared stages with iconic figures such as Carl Cox, Dave Angel, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson.
In 1999, Ken signed with avex as a songwriter and producer, marking a pivotal shift into major-label success. He went on to contribute to numerous platinum-selling releases across J-POP, R&B, and dance music. Most notably, he wrote and produced “Duty” for Ayumi Hamasaki, contributing to an album that won Best Album at the Japan Record Awards in 2000. His production and songwriting credits include BoA, Kumi Koda, EXILE, GLAY, RIZE, and T.M.Revolution.
Beyond artist releases, Ken has composed theme music for PRIDE F.C. MMA events, Formula 1 broadcasts on Fuji TV, and produced music for television dramas. His remix work includes anime titles such as FREE! and Cheer Danshi!!, and he partnered with JOYSOUND on the electronic music program EDM WAVE.
Under the name BOLDO, Ken has released internationally successful EDM tracks including “Surrender” (feat. Dannic), “Light It Up” (feat. Rave Republic), and the iTunes Dance chart #1 hit “Everyday, Everynight.” His track “Neon Lights,” produced for Sensation Japan, further cemented his global presence.
In 2024, Ken expanded into Future Funk with the launch of the Tokyo City Lights event series, showcasing leading artists such as Vantage, Macross 82-99, Moe Shop, and DJ Hello Kitty. Alongside his creative work, he continues to serve as a music director and producer for major companies including avex, TV Asahi Music, and Amuse.
Ken’s vision is to bridge Japan and the United States through music—cultivating cross-cultural collaboration, nurturing emerging talent, and creating new pathways for artists to thrive on both sides of the Pacific.
